Ethan's Page!

This is Amo Laurie's dock and ocean!

This is a picture of Amo Laurie's little cottage and her dock. She took the picture from a helicopter! Her neighbors have docks, too!

Here's a pretty sunset at Amo Laurie's house on the ocean in Florida.

Sometimes we have big storms in Florida. The cats don't like storms and hide under the beds! Here's a picture of Amo Laurie's very stormy ocean! Can you see the palm trees blowing?

Do you see the raccoon hiding behind Amo Laurie's flower pots? She likes to come up on the deck and eat the cat food. She's VERY brave. She's going to have baby raccoons soon!!!

Here's Georgie the Hurricane Kitten lounging on the couch. He sure knows how to make himself comfortable on all those pillows! Ethan, do you remember Georgie? And Momma Kitty and Amos? Momma Kitty brings me leaves as gifts and drops them at my feet. I'll try to take a picture of her with a leaf in her mouth for you!

Here are Momma Kitty and Amos playing on the dock. Momma is getting ready to POUNCE on Amos! Sometimes, the kitties follow me out to the dock.

Here's Amos relaxing on the dock. He's such a scaredy cat that some of my friends have NEVER seen him!

Momma kitty likes to sit on the deck and watch what goes on down below. At night, when she wants to come in the house, she meows under my window until I let her in the house. Meow. Meow. Meow.

There are HUNDREDS of lizards at my house. Geckos, which are a kind of lizard with big sticky toes for climbing upside down, chameleons, which change color to match their environment. It's the way they hide from predators such as birds and other things that eat them. This lizard is about 5 inches long and was climbing on my pottery table Saturday.

This is a differnet kind of lizard. He's called an anole. He lives somewhere inside my pottery shelf, where there are LOTS of places for him to hide. I see him every day when I'm working with clay!

Here's a hermit crab from my ocean. I walked in the water and caught him so I could put him on the dock for a minute to take this picture. He lives inside a shell and when he's frightened, he disappears inside the shell! I had to wait a few minutes for him to sitck his head out for the picture!  As they grow bigger, hermit crabs find bigger shells to live in.

Here's Mr. Hermit Crab after I put him back in the water. He's much more at home in the water. As a matter of fact, the hot sun would dry him up and kill him, so we don't want to keep him out of the water too long.

Here is a blackbird looking for bugs to eat. When the blackbirds can't find enough bugs, they come up on the deck and make lots of noise to scare the cats. SQUAWK SQUAWK SQUAWK! Then they eat CAT FOOD!

On Big Pine Key, where Amo Laurie and Aunt Leslie used to live, they have special deer, called Key Deer. They are very small. This is a baby Key Deer and it's not as tall as Ethan. Can you see its spots? Baby deer are called fawns.

We have all kinds of interesting reptiles in the Florida Keys. We have alligators and lizards. This is a kind of lizard called an iguana. Iguana's grow VERY BIG. Amo Laurie has seen iguanas that are six feet long. Make someone show you how long that is! This baby iguana is about two feet long from the tip of its nose to the end of its tail. How long is two feet? Iguanas eat fruit and vegetables. They're also very good swimmers! Sometimes they jump into the ocean and swim around!

Amo Laurie took a boat trip out into the backcountry recently. The backcountry is a bunch of little islands where nobody lives. Except this pelican lives out there. Do you see the pelican sitting in the tree? Pelicans catch and eat fish! They have big pouches under the beaks!

Here two different types of seagulls that were standing on sticks in the ocean. I took this picture from my friend's boat.

Can you find the red starfish? He's hanging on to a post that holds up my dock! Starfish have lots of legs and look like STARS. They are very sweet little creatures that don't hurt you!

Amo Laurie and her friends had a picnic in the ocean recently. Here we are, sitting in lawn chairs on a sandbar. A sandbar is a very shallow area in the ocean where boats can't go because the water isn't deep enough. But we're FAR away from the mainland where everybody lives!  Only birds live on the little island behind us!

Can you see Amo Laurie? She's wearing a BIG hat and sitting in her lawn chair under the umbrella so she won't get sunburned. That's Jenny next to her. We're waving at ETHAN. Do you see Jenny's friend and his little girl? They had lots of fun at our picnic in the ocean!

This is Jenny's dog, Stingray. Sting is a big white dog who loves the ocean. And he likes to ride in the boat, too! We took him with us on our picnic. He likes for us to throw things so he can retrieve them!

LOOK! It's Amo Laurie and Baby Ethan!           I'll take more pictures for you soon!!! I'm your Amo Laurie and I love you best of all!!!!
