Bowls are such lovely things. They can be utilitarian or decorative. Or both. And Laurie likes to think that her bowls serve both purposes.

Each piece is crafted by hand of red or white earthenware, stoneware clay or porcelain. We do not use commercial molds of any kind. Some bowls also are hand-carved with Laurie's classic "doodle" design, which is always similar, but never the same. Other pieces are etched with patterns borrowed from designs used by Native Americans -- North and South.

Many of the freeform bowls are more decorative than dinner-ware utilitarian because of their shape. However, they are oven and dishwasher safe and are perfect sitting on a dinner table with sauce or condiments, on a coffee table with finger food, nuts or candies, or on a shelf or table as a centerpiece.

Laurie particularly loves her "square" bowls, featured toward the bottom of the page. They can be used for cooking, as you might a casserole dish, or serving. Always start them in them in a cool oven. They will last much longer that way.

They also are lovely display pieces.

If you have in mind something particular -- a size or color, carved or not, contact Laurie to see what's possible. However, while Laurie is open to making commissioned pieces, keep in mind that no piece can be guaranteed to exactly meet your size and color specifications. A 25 percent nonrefundable deposit will be required for each special commission. As it is a time-consuming process, expect delivery no sooner than six weeks from order date.

For more information on a featured piece, please contact us. Our prices range from $15 to $450. Each piece is unique.

This small bowl is dressed in paisley! It would be lovely used as a tray for a small turquoise bowl, or on its own.  Roughly 6 1/2 around, it is 1 3/8" at its highest point. Item #77

This rich brown is almost a khaki color in the right light. Covered with red crystals that flowed during firing, the bottom of the red earthenware dish has been polished smooth rather than glazed, creating a lovely contrast. Item #78

The base of this red clay bowl has been stone-polished and left bare, while the interior is a high-gloss black with white "cloud" crystals. Roughly 8 1/2" to 9" around, it is very thin and lightweight. It would make a lovely display piece. Item #79
